WELCOME TO ALLEGHENY VOTES!

This newsletter comes from the Allegheny County Elections Division to provide up-to-date information about elections in Allegheny County. Do you know people or organizations that would benefit from the information in this newsletter? Encourage them to sign up here.
RETURN YOUR APPLICATION FOR A MAIL-IN OR ABSENTEE BALLOT

As of last week, the Elections Division had received 106,000 applications for mail-in and absentee ballots. In order to receive a mail-in or absentee ballot, voters must complete the application and return it by mail or in person by April 16 at 5 PM. Or apply online for the fastest processing of your request.
VOTERS ASK: WHEN WILL MY BALLOT BE MAILED?

The Election Division carefully tracks the candidate line up in order to finalize ballots quickly and accurately. The division is awaiting the outcome of court cases that challenge candidates on the ballot. At least two appeals involving candidates in Allegheny County were pending before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court at the time of this writing.

When those matters are adjudicated and the candidate slate is set, the Pennsylvania Department of State then certifies the ballot to Allegheny County. With the certified list of candidates, the ballot will be updated, and subjected to logic and accuracy testing in order to assure smooth operation of the process that will be used on Election Day. Following successful completion of logic and accuracy testing, ballots for mail-in and absentee voters will be printed and mailed.

When ballots are ready, you can view a sample ballot here. Watch for updates.

MAKE A PLAN TO VOTE: BALLOT RETURN OPPORTUNITIES

The County Board of Elections has approved a plan to offer six staffed regional ballot return  locations, with plans to add a seventh in McKeesport in a location to be determined. These ballot return locations will be available two weekends before Election Day, on the following dates:

Saturday, April 13, and April 20, 9 am – 5 pm

Sunday, April 14, and April 21, 11 am – 7 pm

An important reminder: each voter may only return their own ballot unless they have completed authorization forms to turn in a ballot on behalf of someone who physically is unable to return their own ballot. Weekend ballot return locations accept only completed ballots, enclosed in signed and dated declaration envelopes.

ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY, APRIL 23

If you are planning to vote in-person, start preparing now by checking your registration status and your polling location. A tip for voters looking up their polling locations: Use your mailing address, not your municipality.

All 1,327 precincts in Allegheny County will be open on April 23 for in person voting. However, more than 50 polling places will be in new locations since the last election. See below, Voters Ask: Why did my polling place move? for more information.

All polling places open at 7 AM and close at 8 PM. Any voter in line at 8 PM will be allowed to vote.

BE A POLL WORKER!

The Elections Division has confirmed 6,753 poll workers committed to working the April 23 primary election. There are still neighborhoods that need poll workers, however. Interested in working? We have several easy ways to get in touch:
VOTERS ASK: WHY DID MY POLLING PLACE MOVE?

Allegheny County relies on the cooperation of many organizations that host polling places. While county-managed facilities and various government buildings often serve as polling places, some municipalities and precincts depend on educational, religious, and civic organizations to host their voting locations.

From time to time, polling places become unavailable due to scheduling conflicts, construction, or other factors. The Elections Division works to find alternate locations that will meet the needs of voters and their communities. The Elections Division is grateful for the cooperation and support of all the organizations that host elections. If you have the opportunity, we hope you will express thanks to those who share access to their facilities.

Currently, there are more than 50 polling places which have been placed in new locations. A few polling locations remain pending.

Updates on locations will be published weekly at Candidate and Municipality Resources - Allegheny County, PA under the Polling Places Listing. In this Excel formatted spreadsheet, rows highlighted in yellow show polling places that have been relocated. Rows highlighted in red will be moving when new locations can be identified.

Additionally, a mailing advising voters of their new polling locations will be sent to all households in the affected precincts. On Election Day, signage will be posted on the former polling places directing voters to their new polling places.

As always, voters planning to vote in person at the polls on election day are encouraged to check their polling place and their registration.
